AMSTERDAM EATS

Some noteworthy places to grab some grub when you’re in Amsterdam.

DIGNITA

Koninginneweg 218HS
1075 EL, Amsterdam
Telephone:  020 221 4458

This place freaking rocks! We had a tricky time finding a great weekend brunch spot, especially coming from Kansas City where excellent breakfast is easy to come by. To our great delight, we stumbled across this place just a few blocks from our apartment, and it’s easily become our favorite (along with many of our friends)! Aside from serving fantastic food and some of the best coffee we’ve ever tasted, Dignita belongs to an international organization called Not for Sale. This organization “through its social enterprises, works to provide certified training programs and support a vulnerable target group of individuals, assisting them in developing greater resilience as they seek to become reintegrated into the workplace and society.” Amazingly, 100% of Dignita’s profits go directly to supporting the work of this organization. Satisfy your belly, satisfy your conscience, or as they say…Eat well, do good.

It’s important to note that EVERYTHING on this menu is delicious. Seriously, everything. We’ve tried it all. But, here are a few super-star dish recommendations:

G & TEA – Bombay Sapphire Gin infused with Earl Grey tea leaves, tonic and an orange twist.

HOMEMADE CRUMPETS – With golden syrup and butter OR Old Amsterdam cheese and butter.

NUTTY GRANOLA – Crunchy roasted clusters of gluten free grains, roasted almonds, brazil nuts and papaya. Served with homemade vegan coconut yoghurt, seasonal fruit and raspberry chia jelly. (Just stop. So good.)

HOT SMOKED SALMON ROYALE – House cured & hot smoked salmon, served on a crispy potato hash, two free range poached eggs and apple cider hollandaise.

G’s

Restaurant, Friday-Sunday 10:00 to 16:00:
Goudsbloemstraat 91
1015 JK, Amsterdam
Brunch Boat, Friday-Sunday sets sails at 10:00, 12:00 & 14:00:
Keizersgracht 198
1018 VP, Amsterdam

Funky, awesome, old-school, hip-hop vibes all brunch long! This is definitely an experience in all the best ways! The restaurant, located in the ultra cool Jordaan neighborhood, is small and gezellig so be sure to make a reservation. Gather round the table with your friends and enjoy your breakfast with a side of Snoop. You can also opt for brunch on the G’s Boat rain or shine.

SOTTO

Amstelveenseweg 89
1075 VW, Amsterdam
Telephone:  020 223 9000
Roelof Hartstraat 27
1071 VG, Amsterdam
Telephone:  020 774 0670

We all know that pizza is great…but Sotto takes it to the. next. level. Each pizza is made to order and baked in a wood-fired oven for extra tastiness. In close proximity to our place (Amstelveenseweg), we find ourselves here a lot, especially to share with visitors. And, no matter how full you are from eating your own entire pizza, you must order the tiramisu. It is the BEST in the entire world. You’re welcome.

We recommend:

BIANCA – Buffala mozarella, extra virgin olive oil, pesto (simplistic perfection)

CARNEVALE PORCINI – Buffala mozzarella, tomato, mushrooms, olives and a ricotta stuffed crust

VERDURE – Buffala mozzarella, tomato, grilled eggplant, grilled zucchini, grilled peppers and arugula

Taj

Marie Heinekenplein 1
1072 MH Amsterdam
Telephone: 020-6797297

Thanks to our friends Emily and Matt, we have found the best Indian restaurant in all of Amsterdam! I think its the extra garlicky garlic naan that really sets it apart. Obviously as an excellent option for vegetarian/vegan diners, we find ourselves here quite a bit. Allow us to recommend the ALOO GOBI and and the CHANA MASSALA. The restaurant isn’t very big so be sure to make a reservation!

More coming soon…
